What is makesPDF?

makesPDF turns Markdown or a compact template DSL into accessible, archive-grade PDFs — PDF/A-2A + PDF/UA-1 dual-compliant, validated against veraPDF on every release. Renders take about a second, with no AI in the hot path.

The service is built for automation: a skill file teaches Claude, Cursor, ChatGPT, or any AI assistant to author templates; a native MCP server lets agents call the API without any manual integration; and x402 pay-per-render lets wallet-based agents pay for each PDF with no account required.

Background

makesPDF grew out of fourteen years of building document-generation tooling. The current incarnation was designed from scratch for the post-LLM workflow: an AI assistant authors the template once, the API renders it thousands of times with fresh data. The underlying layout engine, font subsetter, and PDF writer are all custom-built for the Cloudflare Workers environment — no headless browser, no Node-only native modules, no external render farms.

How makesPDF is built

Most of makesPDF's code is written by AI coding agents working through a backlog on clankerbar, a task tracker for coding agents. Agents claim tasks over MCP, work on them in their own branches, and open pull requests. Each change goes through an adversarial review by a separate agent before it reaches a human. Jason decides what gets built and approves every merge. Promotion to staging and production stays manual.
